SMCP - IMO standard phrases by ear and in speech
From MAYDAY to mooring and cargo operations: 2231 phrases with live audio. Listen to the speaker, repeat, and check yourself with the section trainers.
What you get
SMCP (Standard Marine Communication Phrases) are standard marine phrases for communication on board and over the radio, adopted by the IMO in Resolution A.918(22). Understanding SMCP is part of the STCW Convention requirements for English language proficiency for officers.
Standard phrases on the bridge, in the engine room and over the radio register without translating in your head.
You learn whole phrases for specific situations, so communication comes out unambiguous and short.
Live audio trains your ear for accents, and in real radio traffic you keep up with the other party.
Course programme
The sections follow the structure of the IMO standard, from distress communication to passengers and cargo operations.
Fire, flooding, collision, man overboard, abandoning ship, search and rescue (SAR) operations and providing medical assistance.

Loading and unloading, securing cargo and monitoring cargo handling.
Briefings and drills, passenger evacuation, and at the end a final exam trainer covering the whole course.

How the lessons work
A simple cycle that fits into any free minute on board or at home.
You play the live native-speaker audio and hear the phrase the way it sounds in real communication.
You repeat after the speaker, practising the pronunciation and intonation of the standard phrase.
You take the self-check right in the section and immediately see what stuck. EN→RU flashcards help you reinforce it.
At the end of the course there is a final exam trainer covering all the material, from MAYDAY to passengers.
