What you get

SMCP (Standard Marine Communication Phrases) are standard marine phrases for communication on board and over the radio, adopted by the IMO in Resolution A.918(22). Understanding SMCP is part of the STCW Convention requirements for English language proficiency for officers.

You understand commands by ear

Standard phrases on the bridge, in the engine room and over the radio register without translating in your head.

Ready-made constructions, not a dictionary

You learn whole phrases for specific situations, so communication comes out unambiguous and short.

You get used to the pace of radio traffic

Live audio trains your ear for accents, and in real radio traffic you keep up with the other party.

Yes - the SeaTrainer app for Android is available on RuStore. The course and all of its audio are saved to your device, so you can listen to the SMCP phrases with no internet - at sea or on the road. Sign in with the same account you use on the site.
Does it help me understand radio traffic and commands?
Yes. You listen to live audio and get used to the pace and accents of radio communication, so you start recognising standard phrases and commands on the bridge, in the engine room and over the radio by ear, without translating in your head.
Do I need an advanced level of English?
No. SMCP is a set of standard phrases for specific situations, not free conversation. You learn ready-made constructions and reinforce them with audio and EN→RU flashcards, so the course works even at a basic level.
What is SMCP?
SMCP (IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases) are standard marine phrases for communication, adopted by the IMO in Resolution A.918(22). It is a unified set of wordings so that communication at sea is unambiguous regardless of the native language of the parties.
How are SMCP phrases different from ordinary translation?
SMCP are fixed constructions for particular situations, not a word-for-word translation. Their purpose is to remove ambiguity: one standard phrase means the same thing to every party in the communication.
